Новозеландский режиссер и продюсер Питер Джексон, известный по трилогии "Властелин колец", удостоен от Новой Зеландии рыцарского титула. Об этом 31 декабря сообщает The New Zealand Herald.
Джексон, уточняет издание, был провозглашен кавалером ордена "За заслуги перед Новой Зеландией". С 2002 года он являлся почетным членом этого ордена, и с тех пор продолжал "неустанно вносить вклад в новозеландскую киноиндустрию". В связи с этим было принято решение о награждении Джексона рыцарским титулом.
Как отмечает Associated Press, кандидатуру Джексона на рыцарский титул, как и других претендентов на почетный титул, одобрила королева Великобритании Елизавета II.
Питер Джексон назвал присуждение ему рыцарского титула "потрясающим моментом в жизни". По его признанию, он ошибался, полагая, что ничто не сможет превзойти то количество "Оскаров", что он получил за экранизацию "Властелина колец".
